In September 1999 Art Mason and I (Don Hinckfoot) purchased the sailboat Absolute, a Peterson 37, built by Wiggins’, Ontario Canada in 1982, for scrap valve. Absolute sat in dry dock for over 5 years uncovered and none of the plug hardware was pulled in the bottom to allow rain water to drain and the water was over the engines oil dip stick. We spent the next two years repairing the deck and transoms fiber glass and balsa, replaced a number of the oak stringers along the bottom and up the side of the hull. A new 3-cylinder diesel engine with an angled transmission was installed on new oak motor mounts. The major renovations were completed in late May 2001. Absolute was purchased without sails and used sails had to be bought and re-cut for racing. July 2001 Absolute did its first major race, the Bayview Mackinac Race - long course (South Hampton). A used re-cut main was delivered late Friday night the day before the big race. This turned out to be Absolute’s first race and shake down since its purchase in 1999 and it finished 15th out of 18 boats. In the 2002 Bayview Mackinac Race Absolute finished 5th out of 20 boats in its class and in the 2003 Bayview Mackinac Race Absolute took a 1st place in its class. Absolute has done two Chicago Mackinac Races 2007 and 2008 (100 Th.). Absolute and the crew are looking forward to doing the 2009 Chicago Mackinac Race (101 St.) and continuing on for the 2009 SUPER MAC to Port Huron. Then turn around and compete in the 2009 Bayview Mackinac Race (85 Th) doing the old traditional long course the Cove Island Course ORR. Absolute is a great sailboat and since the time it was built in 1982 for racing it has loved to race. Art and I take great pride in Absolute and we’re proud that we were able to salvage Absolute to keep it racing. |

Back in 1978, a race horse went down in history for his fortitude, and outright speed. His name was AFFIRMED, when challenged down the stretch by the larger stronger, Alydar, it was AFFIRMED who won each of the Triple Crown races in arguably the best rivalry of all time. No horse has won the Triple Crown since. However, keep an eye on "I'll Have Another" this year, same maternal bloodline as AFFIRMED, and undefeated in 2012 including the Derby! The father and son team of Nick and Jason Geisz, and the rest of the crew, are excited to be a force on the Great Lakes, and continue a tradition of winning aboard AFFIRMED. Equipped this year with technology upgrades, a fresh set of sails, and a highly talented/committed crew, anything short of a victory is a disappointment. We thank the race committee, all the spouses, and raise a toast for all the effort that goes into such a memorable part of our sailboat racing lives! See you at the island. Detente's crew members are all sailboat owners themselves as well as friends. No one would call us hard core racers but all but one of our crew has done at least one BYC Mac. And the one exception has done the Single Handed Mackinac (with the turning mark at Goderich) several times and is one of only a handful of people to have done the Single Handed Challenges in all 5 Great Lakes. We all have a lot of miles under our keels and are looking forward to a great ride in 2012. Thanks to all involved in making this a special event. |

Previous Fast Tango's have won and placed in several Port Huron to Mac races. This Fast Tango is making it's fourth appearance (as Fast Tango) in this year's Port Huron to Mackinac race, having won our class in 2010. The crew includes several Old Goats, and some punk ass kids. We were incredibly stupid early in last year's race, and the results showed it. We're looking to redeem ourselves this year. |

The owner of Flyin' Irish the green hulled J-120 is Bill & Sue Bresser. They have shared their passion for sailing with family and friends for over 40 years.
After Bill’s 25th consecutive Mackinac race in 2006, he decided that driving the crew van wasn’t a bad way to get to the island. To quote him “you should see this van go to weather”. A few years ago a sail maker told one of Bill's sons "your dad really gets what sailboat racing is all about, being competitive and having fun with his friends and family".
With a 1st place finish in 2008 and a 2nd place in 2009 and 2010, Flyin' Irish will be sailing hard to recapture the "gold" in 2011.
The captain this year will be Jerry Bresser, who will be sailing his 28th Mackinac race. Two other crew, Pat Bresser and Hans Brieden will gain "old goat" status as they each sail their 25th race.
The crew of Flyin' Irish would like to take a moment to thank Bill and Sue for making it possible for us to participate in this great sport......We'll see you at the Pony!!!

Limerick sailed her first Port Huron to Mac back in 1984. She won Overall in 1991 and quite a few DRYA and Mac flags since. We continue to enjoy racing as a family and this year Kevin will be bringing his two daughters, McKenzie and Kerri. |

This 2012 Bayview Mackinac will be the owner Rich Corbett's 25th race which will qualify him to become a member of the Island Goat Society. Captain Rich Corbett is also a current member of the Chicago Yacht Club's Island Goat Society. The completion of this years Bayview Mackinac Race will qualify Captain Corbett to become a member of the double old goat society celebrating those participants who have sailed at least 25 Mackinac Races in both the Bayview Mackinac Race and the Chicago to Mackinac Race. We have a well seasoned crew with over 130 collective Mackinac Races between us. The crew is made up of family and close freinds that have been sailing together for many years. Between us we have many first, second, and third place finishes as well as some overall wins. Manitou is an Algonquian Indian word meaning spirit. This spirit is seen as a (contactable) person as well as a concept. Everything has its own Manitou—every plant, every stone, even machines. Wild celebration of good times and being thankful for being able to participate in this great race - sailing safely while being part of this epic event , pretty much sums up where we are. Average crew age is 49.5 with three Old Goats and Grand Ram, Geo Hendrie, Jr. ("Twister" sometimes "Bugsey") who is sailing his 64TH Mack Race this year. Stella has sailed 26 Macks and placed 3rd in 2003 and 2008. Many wins in DRYA and several season championships. This will be the Ninth year as a Cruising Class boat. Look for STELLA to do well. |

All the members of the boat have played football, wrestling, or coached for Skipper/Owner Larry Walters. Larry coached Varsity Football and Varsity Wrestling at Mount Clemens High School(Battling Bathers) for over 37 years. The boat returns Johnston, Monaghan, Roskopp, and Mason from last year's race. |

Twisted was born in France in 1984 into the one design world of 1-tonners. When it retired from the one design class it was donated to the Naval Academy where it was renamed Phantom. After three years it was sold and raced in the Detroit area under the name of Player. The boat currently sails out of Bay City, Michigan. The owners are both are Old Goats. |

The first Weather Edge was an Express 27. Colt Weatherston and Wade Edwards, both avid Snipe sailors, were the co-owners of the Express and sailed it for many years together. Weather Edge II was an Etchells and was once again owned jointly by Colt and Wade until Wade Edwards moved to Boston where he now is the Director of the Boston Sailing Center.
In 2008 Colt purchased Weather Edge III and she sailed her first Mackinac Race finishing 2nd in the Beneteau 36.7 class.

One sort of young guy populates this mostly older crew of four men and two women who make this boat go. The young guy's grandfather sailed 40 foot ice boats. His uncle is a grand ram. His father still sails the Mac. He is keeping the family tradition going with gusto. Another crew member is a retired high school teacher whose students undoubtedly miss her daily. Four attorneys make the boat one in which the wind never dies. |

Yare is the winningest boat in the history of the BYC Mackinac Race. This will be Yare’s 50th Mackinac, and she has 11 first place finishes.
